CLOVE COOKIES-The Southern Lady Cooks

If you are a fan of cloves you must give these old fashioned clove cookies at try, they are wonderful!

Clove Cookies

We love cloves and we love spice cakes, so if you are a fan as well, definitely give this Southern Jam Cake a try. It’s a classic for a reason and we have it every Christmas.

❤️WHY WE LOVE THIS RECIPE

This old fashioned recipe is one you will go to time after time because they are addicting.  Once you eat a couple, you will keep going back for more.  These clove cookies make a great gift for anyone and are a good recipe to serve friends and family during the holidays like Christmas or Thanksgiving.  I can eat this whole recipe with coffee and they make a wonderful snack.

ARE THEY SOFT OR HARD COOKIES?

These are softer cookies and they get more soft by the day. We like that you can make them in advance and store them in an airtight container and they are even better the next day! These are the perfect holiday cookie.

TIPS ON BAKING COOKIES

Cookies should look a little underdone when removed from the oven and should be light around the edges.  Cookies will continue to cook from the heat of the cookie sheet once removed. This is a mistake I have made many times letting them cook too long and it’s easy to do.

Make sure cookie sheets are not too thin. The heavier your sheet the less likely your cookies are to burn.  If your cookie sheets are thin, you can layer with aluminum foil.

If the recipe calls for “softened” butter make sure the butter is room temperature but not melted. You just want to be able to press your finger into the butter without resistance.

Have all ingredients at room temperature for better results. This also makes the baking process much easier since you will have all your ingredients out and organized.

Flour for baking cookies does not have to be sifted unless recipe specifies to sift the flour.

  • Gingersnap Cookies – These have been a family favorite for over 40 years. Mom made them for us when we were kids.
  • Cinnamon Pecan Cookies – These are made with cinnamon chips and they are wonderful! Great for the holidays.
  • Molasses Cookies – These are easy to make and wonderful year round!
  • Maple Oatmeal Cookies – These are a great twist on a classic! The maple frosting is sooo good!
